BirdMan BMFing

Reminder: It's The Rapper's Money Not Yours

The other day, I had the privilege of interviewing Bryan "Birdman" Williams for this website. One of my questions was how he spent the $1 million he won betting on the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl. Without any hesitation Weezy's father said he bought a Maybach (click here to read the whole story).

Admittedly, when I posed the question about what he did with his money to Baby, I gently asked if one of the things he did was give it to charity. That's when he gave me the Maybach answer. But no judgment here. Far as I'm concerned the man is free to do with his money what he wants and, in his defense, who knows what other ways he spends the money we don't hear about it? But as was expected, ridicule towards Baby's purchase started pouring in via Twitter and other social outlets.

A similar thing happened a couple of weeks ago when a news clip of Rick Ross, Diddy, and Pharrell spread on the Internet. In the clip, the reporter says the three artists threw out nearly $1 million in cash at the King of Diamonds strip club. Not a day had gone by before posts were being written and random folks on my own Twitter timeline accosted the men for their actions, citing all the different good causes the money could have gone towards.

Now paint me some sort of superficial jerk who cares nothing about the world's problems, but honestly, if I had $1 million in disposable income, I'm pretty sure getting a Maybach or a night at one of the world's best strip clubs would be at the top of my list of things to do. Would I give any of it to a good cause? Sure. Whatever I had left could go to a good cause, but the first good cause I'm going to support is myself. Why? It's my money, and I earned it.

But the reality is, this is probably why a higher power has never and might not ever bestow upon me a cool mil.

R.I.P Brett Jackson

Brett Jackson... Gone Too Soon

By:Guest Contributor

It is with much sadness to announce the passing of a producer and DJ, Brett Jackson. This morning (Wednesday 16), Jackson lost his battle to Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer at the Pretoria East Hospital.

Diagnosed with the disease in November 2008, Brett fought back like a true soldier - even contributing his time and status to the CANSA Organisation's fundraising courses and contributing a portion of his royalty earnings to the organisation.

Born 28 May 1982, Brett Jackson became known for his soulful deep house sounds - being cross-over and breaking into the urban market scene. With several critically acclaimed compilation series under his belt such as, The Deeper Sound of Brett Jackson, Dig Deeper Vol 1 & 2, Soul Select Vol 1-3, The Best of OM & most recently Soul Candi Sessions 5. On an international level, Brett was renowned - From Cape Town to Karlsruhe, Durban to Dubai, Brett Jackson has rocked dancefloors across Belgium, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Switzerland, South Africa, Germany, Spain, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and beyond.

Brett Jackson joined the Soul Candi family in 2003 as the record store manager and buyer and was currently the label manager of the Urban Dance division. His contribution to the label saw him compile some of the biggest selling albums the label has ever released. A true music visionary he was.

Much can be said for his life as a DJ - but as a man, he was one of ethics, honour, honesty and indeed a true soldier.

May his soul rest in peace

Dineo Ranaka has a Drug Problem??

Rehab For Dineo Ranaka?

Controversial YFM DJ Dineo Ranaka has reportedly been ordered to go to rehab or lose her job.

Ranaka, who was suspended last week, is said to be having serious drug addiction problems.

Internet reports also say that Ranaka's situation is being made worse by a series of fights she had with the station's marketing manager, Tamaria Motsepe.

Ranaka's Afternoon Drive Show has since been taken over by content producer Bujy and co-host Linda Mabaso.

YFM staff, who spoke to SowetanLive on condition of anonymity, said a well-known DJ at the station sells drugs to colleagues.

We hope Ranaka is the only one having drug addiction problems at Y!
